Pumpkin patch

A pumpkin patch and a corn pit, near Grafton.

When the peaches are gone and the air turns cool, the orchard turns into a fall day for the whole family. Pumpkins to pick, a corn pit to dive into, wagon rides through the rows, and apple dumplings warm from the oven. No wristbands, no admission, just a real fall day across the ferry.

The patch

Pick your pumpkin, big or small.

Come fall we have pumpkins by the trailer-load, from little pie pumpkins to the big carving kind. Walk the rows, find the one with your name on it, and load up the wagon. They are grown right here, on the same ground the peaches come off in summer.

For the kids

A corn pit, wagon rides, and room to run.

The corn pit is the one the kids talk about all winter, a big bin of clean corn they can dive into like a sandbox. There are wagon rides through the orchard and plenty of open space to burn off a morning. No lines, no wristbands, no tourist-trap nonsense.

While you’re here

Apples, dumplings, and a pie for the road.

It is also apple season, so grab a bag while you are here. Take home an apple pie or a box of dumplings still warm from the oven, and let the grandparents off the hook for a minute.
